Last week, Wilson Southern Middle School’s Chamber Orchestra, the Southern Sinfonietta, embarked on its annual December Tour. This year’s daytime stops included Ageless Harmony Adult Daycare and The Residence at Village Green.

Students performed a mix of classical pieces and familiar holiday favorites from their seasonal repertoire. What made this year especially meaningful was a Side-by-Side performance with select fifth graders from the Shiloh Hills strings program.

Directors Helen Clark (Southern) and Katie Moyer (Shiloh) value these outreach performances as opportunities for students to bring music into the lives of older members of our community while also enjoying the experience of making music together and sharing it with others.

Wishing everyone a very happy holiday season and a safe, warm winter break! #WilsonSD

Last week, third-grade students at Cornwall Terrace got a head start on their entrepreneurial journeys with a "Career Fair"! Eleven local entrepreneurs (Detweiler Design, Author Jill Lynch, Betsy Fick Photography, Kristina Kreates, Acacia Flower Shop, Berks Deals & Steals, Pinky’s Junk Removal, InstaShine Car Wash, John’s Great Cars, Threads Embroidery, and Powdered Pink Flamingo) shared their expertise, offering insights into running a successful business. Students were also allowed to ask any business questions they had!

A huge thank you to our guest entrepreneurs for donating their time and knowledge! The students are now ready to start their own "businesses"! #WilsonSD

Whitfield’s Boosterthon fundraiser was a huge success, raising $18,672 thanks to the incredible support of our families and community!

To celebrate, students earned fun incentives like glow sticks and a glow dance party. Mr. Curry took on the ultimate challenge by working from the roof for the entire day, and our Top 10 fundraisers got to pie him in the face during our monthly assembly!

Top fundraisers from each homeroom enjoyed donuts with Mr. Curry, and the winning homeroom earned an extra PE class.

These funds will directly support our school, including the purchase and installation of a safety pad for the Gaga pit to help keep our students safe while they play. Thank you for helping make this such a success! #WilsonSD

This year, Mrs. Mattiuz’s class has been participating in an exciting program called NFeLementary! Each student drafts an NFL team and follows them throughout the season, learning about their players, stats, and standings in the league. After completing a social skills unit on conversations, Mrs. Mattiuz surprised the class with a special guest: Wilson alumni and former NFL quarterback Chad Henne! Students held a mock press conference where they asked him questions about his football career— and even got to try on his Super Bowl rings!

Check out the photos above!

Last week, third graders at Shiloh Hills took part in an Entrepreneurship Seminar where they learned from five local business owners and asked thoughtful questions about their ideas and interests. These entrepreneurs generously shared their experiences and gave students a behind-the-scenes look at their work through demonstrations and photos of their finished products.

A huge thank you to Brandon Koyste from BLS Landscaping & Construction, Cara Dzurek from Tinsel & Twig, Corrine Dutt from May’s Sandwich Shop, Ron Schaeffer from AU Baseball Camps, and Kris Kurzweg from Fleetwood Auto Service.
