Invite your students to apply for $50,000 in scholarships to be awarded this spring
We invite you to share the Men’s College Scholarship with male high school seniors at Wilson High School.
Men are going to college with less frequency than in the past, and not persisting to graduation at the same rates as women. According to The Wall Street Journal, at the close of the 2020-21 academic year, women made up 59.5% of college students, an all-time high, and men 40.5%, according to enrollment data from the National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit research group. U.S. colleges and universities had 1.5 million fewer students compared with five years ago, and men accounted for 71% of the decline.
Men are choosing paths other than college. To counter this trend, a diverse group of fraternity alumni founded the Men’s College Scholarship Program which will award $50,000 in scholarships this year to inspire college attendance and academic success by young men.
The scholarship is designed to identify and reward outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated an ability to excel in the fields of academics, extra-curricular school activities and community involvement. The scholarship is available to any male, graduating senior from an accredited high school who is enrolling in a four-year undergraduate college program that commences in the fall. The scholarship is awarded through the Foundation for Fraternal Excellence, a registered 501(c)3 organization. Current or future membership in a fraternity is not required.
Again, Mark, we feel a college education is important and want to assist young men who make the choice to attend. Please share this application today! Deadline for applications is April 1, 2022.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Bill of Rights Institute’s 2022 We the Students Essay Contest!
The grand prize is $7,500 and a scholarship to the Constitutional Academy summer program in Washington, DC. Submissions are due April 15th at 11:59 p.m. ET.
This year’s topic is: How does an understanding of natural rights and respect build a free society?
Answering the question requires an understanding of natural rights and how they relate to the principle of respect and how the flourishing of a free society is dependent upon them. To truly explore this question in an essay that is between 500 -800 words, students will need to go beyond “dictionary definitions,” and express their understanding and reasoning about the connections among these principles. This reasoning involves a combination of observation, experience, and some pretty “big ideas.” What does it take to understand them? To build toward and maintain them? To see them with regard to each other? Why are these relationships important?
We encourage students to bring emotion, creativity, specific examples, and well-researched facts into what they write. A good essay will demonstrate how these principles are not just abstract ideas but are part of people’s everyday actions and choices.

Lauren’s Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship information and the application can be found at www.laurensfoundation.org under the “Our Funds>High School Scholarships” link. (The direct link to the scholarship application is https://laurensfoundation.org/fund/lauren-fitzgerald-memorial-scholarship/. Students are also advised to file a copy with their respective guidance department.
For those of you that may be unfamiliar with the scholarship, it targets students (seniors) who have lived through (or are currently dealing with) some pretty difficult circumstances – such as personal health issues, loss of a loved one, addictions, abuse, etc…, yet managed to keep their grades up and maintain a positive outlook. The essay portion of the application is based on the Maya Angelou quote,“I can be changed by what happens to me. I refuse to be reduced by it.” This quote was adopted by my daughter following her brain tumor diagnosis, as the way she would choose to live what would turn out to be the last 14 months of her life.
