AP stands for Advanced Placement. These are college level classes taught in high schools throughout the country. Students enrolled in these classes are required to take the AP exam, administered in May of every year. There is a cost for the exam ($94/test EXCEPT for AP Research and AP Seminar which are $141/test) which must be absorbed by the student. (For some cases fee reduction is available, please talk to your school counselor for further details.) If the student scores well enough (3, 4 or 5…highest possible is a 5) the class could be accepted by their future college for credit. Students are advised to research this with their college to see which grade is acceptable.
Students who are enrolled in an AP class and decide they do not wish to take the AP exam must notify administration by the end of the first quarter. If this occurs the class title will be changed to reflect “honors level” and the student will receive the honors weighting for the class instead of the AP weighting.
