Welcome to the Wilson School District Visual Art Department
Mission Statement
The mission of the Wilson School District Art Department is to ensure that all students at every developmental level experience creative, academic, and social growth through the visual arts.
Art Department Philosophy
Art is a human endeavor that reveals all that we have learned about life, culture, technology, and ourselves. Through art, we come to perceive and understand our world. Art education allows us to teach our children the importance, purposes, and possibilities of art.
The art education program is designed to help students connect with the enduring ideas about art and the human experience. People have made art throughout time allowing civilizations to identify with their culture, understand their experiences, expressing their own thoughts and feelings, solving problems and find creative solutions. We aim to provide students with an appreciation of the art that has been made before us, the contextual situations that impact art production in the past and present, and the multitude of reasons that people across the globe and through time have communicated visually through art.
