Save Me A Seat by Sarah Weeks & Gita Varadarajan
One School, One Book is a novel program in that children of all grade levels will be listening to their parents read the same book. Reading professionals recommend reading material out loud that is beyond a child’s reading level. We also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to read by themselves. We have selected a title that can be followed and understood and enjoyed by younger students, but will still captivate and stimulate older children. Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. With the One School, One Book program, we aim to build a team of readers at our school. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, and staff – will all be following along together.
Your child received a copy of Save Me A Seat at a special school-wide assembly yesterday, September 23rd. A reading schedule is on our blog, which can be found at http://springridgeoneschoolonebook.blogspot.com . A link to an audio version of the text is available for families to listen to and also guess who the mystery reader is. Winners will be announced on Fridays. The blog will be updated frequently, so please check back regularly. Additionally, we are asking students to share photographs of where they are reading at home with you. Please send photos to Mrs. Caputo at capbet@share.wilsonsd.org and look for them on display on our school’s Facebook page.
