Last week, Wilson Southern Middle School’s Chamber Orchestra, the Southern Sinfonietta, embarked on its annual December Tour. This year’s daytime stops included Ageless Harmony Adult Daycare and The Residence at Village Green.

Students performed a mix of classical pieces and familiar holiday favorites from their seasonal repertoire. What made this year especially meaningful was a Side-by-Side performance with select fifth graders from the Shiloh Hills strings program.

Directors Helen Clark (Southern) and Katie Moyer (Shiloh) value these outreach performances as opportunities for students to bring music into the lives of older members of our community while also enjoying the experience of making music together and sharing it with others.

Wishing everyone a very happy holiday season and a safe, warm winter break! #WilsonSD

Whitfield’s Boosterthon fundraiser was a huge success, raising $18,672 thanks to the incredible support of our families and community!

To celebrate, students earned fun incentives like glow sticks and a glow dance party. Mr. Curry took on the ultimate challenge by working from the roof for the entire day, and our Top 10 fundraisers got to pie him in the face during our monthly assembly!

Top fundraisers from each homeroom enjoyed donuts with Mr. Curry, and the winning homeroom earned an extra PE class.

These funds will directly support our school, including the purchase and installation of a safety pad for the Gaga pit to help keep our students safe while they play. Thank you for helping make this such a success! #WilsonSD

Students dove into the wonders of space through a cross-curricular science and ELA unit using TEL strategies. They researched planets, constellations, and star patterns, explored astronomy with the Star Lab, and created hands-on constellation models using cups and flashlights. After becoming “experts,” they taught younger students and strengthened their communication skills. They also interviewed NASA robotics engineer Jason Fugate, learning about real-world space missions and future career paths! #WilsonSD

Mrs. Haymaker’s K–2 Autistic Support classroom has officially reopened the Quiet Corner Book Store! Students practiced their communication skills and built confidence by collecting books from staff, organizing the donations, and preparing the store for “opening day.”

Staff members stopped by to shop for new books, exchanging the tickets they earned for each donated book. It was a wonderful learning experience for students and a fun way to share the love of reading! #WilsonSD
