May 11, 2023, marked the end of the CDC’s Covid-19 Public Health Emergency Declaration. With the declaration expired, our procedures for handling COVID-19 cases fall back to our standard procedures for student illnesses. If a student has a positive test, they do not need to quarantine or remain home for 5 days from symptom onset, but should remain home as long as they are symptomatic. The student will be allowed to return when they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication, when symptoms have subsided, or accordinging to the return date on a physician’s note, if provided. Again, this aligns with our standard practice for all student illnesses.
Covid-19 absences will count as a typical parental excused absence unless a physician’s note is present (this is not required). For any questions regarding the Covid-19 procedure, please contact the nurse in your building.
