At Monday night’s board meeting, one of our board members made a series of comments that in no way represent the vision or values of our district. The other eight Board Members, our superintendent, Dr. Chris Trickett, and our entire school district leadership team, want to assure you that we categorically reject these statements as inappropriate, hurtful, and unacceptable. The Wilson School District is committed to creating a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and appreciated for their unique contributions. We do not accept or condone racist, hateful, or discriminatory comments about any individual or group.
Neither our district administration nor our school board has the legal authority to remove a board member from office based on this current situation. The only way for this board member to leave office is to resign of their own accord.
Board leadership worked with our attorney to develop a resolution that formally censures this board member and publicly requests a resignation. That resolution will be brought to a special board meeting that is scheduled for Monday, November 14, 2022, at 7 pm. This meeting is open to the public. As with any public school board meeting, individuals wanting to make public comments must be district residents.
We know that many people in our community have been personally affected by the hurtful comments made during the board meeting. Our team remains committed to creating an environment where all students love to learn, and all members of our community love to live.
