We have been made aware that individuals who are walking or running on some of our grass fields have noticed a black residue appearing on their shoes/ legs. The district has not applied any fertilizers or other chemicals to our fields, so we reached out to our lawn/ turf management vendor to determine the cause of the residue. They identified it as a black slime fungus that is harmless to people and to the grass fields. Black slime fungus is naturally occurring and is triggered by certain weather conditions, including extreme heat/ dryness followed by soaking rain. It will disappear with a change in the weather, such as additional rain.
