As a reminder, we previously communicated with you that for the 2022-2023 school year, the Wilson School District implemented new procedures to help us to ensure that student allergies are documented correctly. This procedure requires a doctor’s note to be on file with your student’s building nurse for any allergies that are reported in Skyward. The information that you report in Skyward regarding food allergies is extremely important for our Food Service Staff so that they are able to provide an additional layer of protection for our students.
It is important to understand that the information recorded in our system for our Food Service Staff will reflect food allergies and not food preferences. Our student information database is unable to distinguish the difference between a preference and a medically-diagnosed allergy, and for the safety of our students, we need to ensure we have the proper documentation. Therefore, if you DO NOT currently have a doctor’s note on file with the school nurse regarding your student’s allergy, we ask that you please provide one to the school nurse so that we can update our records accurately.
Please also encourage your student to self-advocate and ask any questions when selecting items in the cafeteria. Our Food Service staff are extremely knowledgeable about the products and menu items that we serve and can help your student to make a safe and healthy choice.
If you have any questions regarding providing documentation for your student’s allergy, please contact your building nurse.
