In preparation for upcoming nonfiction units, Mrs. Miller's 2nd grade class practiced recording what they see, think, and wonder about pumpkins! Students visited different stations to observe inside and outside parts of a pumpkin, test if they sink or float, taste puree, compare different types of pumpkins, participate in sensory play, and sort fiction and nonfiction texts regarding pumpkins.
This hands-on lesson promotes higher order thinking and questioning skills, compare and contrast, and sequencing while encouraging students to communicate and collaborate.
We can't wait to see how they continue developing these skills throughout their nonfiction studies! #WilsonSD

Fall Fun Days at Southern Middle School!
Students in grades 6–8 at Southern Middle School enjoyed Fall Fun Days! One of the highlights was the pumpkin decorating contest, where 5th-grade students from CT had the important job of judging the creative and festive pumpkin designs!
It was a fun-filled celebration full of creativity, school spirit, and fall festivities—a perfect way to welcome the autumn season! Events like these also provide meaningful opportunities to build connections across grade levels, strengthen our school community, and create lasting memories together! #WilsonSD

AP environmental science students got to spend the day learning outside as they traveled to the Nolde Environmental Education center to learn about the history and importance of Nolde Forest, and the Angelica Creek watershed. Working with the Nolde educators, these students conducted water testing on the creek, identified and analyzed macroinvertebrates, and hiked the trails of the forest! #WilsonSD
October is Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness Month! Students and staff participated in an activity organized by the speech therapists at the High School and West Middle School to raise awareness and celebrate the many ways people communicate. Together, we promote inclusion, connection, and communication for all! #WilsonSD

Fifth graders at CT launched into their next reading unit, Researching the Universe, with an out-of-this-world day of exploration and discovery!
Students rotated through a variety of space-themed stations where they designed their own rockets and Mars rovers, tackled solar system trivia and puzzles, created constellation replicas, and explored a discovery table filled with all things space!
The highlight of the day was stepping inside Wilson’s inflatable Star Lab planetarium to explore constellations from both Greek and Native American traditions!

Conrwall Terrace 1st grade readers had an exciting time launching their new Word Detectives Unit! Students put their detective skills to the test through a series of engaging and hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and get them excited about becoming Word Detectives. Each mystery activity gave students a chance to think like detectives, look closely at clues, and use their reading skills to solve the case!

The Wilson High School Junior ROTC will host the 24th Annual Berks County Veterans Appreciation Dinner Dance in the Wilson High School Gymnasium on Saturday, November 7.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15), the ASOPALA (Association of Latin Parents) committee will host Wilson Bingo Night on October 16, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Lower House cafeteria. The event will feature delicious Hispanic food, prizes, and raffles.
Entry is FREE, and cards are only $5 and are valid for the entire night.
All funds raised will support the ELSA Scholarship, awarded to seniors pursuing college or trade school. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!

Congratulations to Wilson High School senior, Belle Scolastico, on winning Best Portrait in the Yocum Institute’s Berks in Focus photography contest!
Belle submitted 10 photos to the contest, which received more than 2,000 entries, including 900 from students. Her homecoming photo was selected as one of the finalists for public voting and ultimately took home the Best Portrait award!
On Sunday, five of Belle’s photos were featured in a special presentation at the Santander Performing Arts Center, where images were brought to life alongside music performed by the Reading Symphony Orchestra.

This month, AP environmental science students continued to analyze the health and quality of the Tulpehocken Creek and our local watershed. This time, they conducted chemical tests on the water and collected a wide range of macroinvertebrates to better understand the quality of the water, health of the creek, and the importance of protecting our watersheds. #WilsonSD
Cornwall Terrace kindergarteners celebrated completing their first reading unit with a parade around the school! Students proudly showed off their favorite storybooks and handcrafted storybook caps, with Southern Middle School cheerleaders there to cheer them on with a special cheer. What a fun way to celebrate reading and becoming real story tellers!
