As we prepare for the start of the new school year, we want to remind families that electric scooters and electric bicycles are prohibited on all Wilson School District campuses. We have experienced a significant increase in electric scooters and electric bicycles over the last year, raising safety concerns in our community and on our campuses. Because of this, we will increase enforcement beginning the first day of school.
Under the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code (Title 75), electric scooters and bicycles are classified as motor-driven cycles and are subject to registration, equipment, and operating requirements. Because most electric scooters and bicycles do not meet these requirements, they cannot be legally operated on public roadways or sidewalks. In addition, Wilson School District Board Policy 223 prohibits their use on district property.
Families are asked to partner with us to ensure students use only approved and lawful means of transportation to and from school, including district-provided buses, walking, standard bicycles where appropriate, or transportation provided by a parent or guardian.
We appreciate your cooperation and partnership in maintaining a safe environment for all students and staff.
