Since 2014, the Wilson School District has proudly offered a Learn to Swim Program for all 2nd-grade students. This initiative is designed to provide lifesaving water safety skills, as drowning remains a significant risk for children.

Beyond safety, the program offers vital physical and cognitive benefits, including:

  • Improved Coordination & Fitness: Swimming builds strength, endurance, and motor skills.

  • Confidence Building: Mastering new skills in the water boosts self-esteem and a "can-do" attitude.

  • Early Intervention: 2nd grade is the ideal time as children are old enough to master complex techniques but young enough to benefit from early skill-building.

  • Closing Access Gaps: We are committed to ensuring all students have access to these essential skills, regardless of their prior experience or pool access.
