Today, Whitfield students took part in the Hour of Code, a global movement that encourages students to build computer programming skills. It was a great day of learning as students, staff, and community members came together to explore computer science through hands-on activities. Thank you to Penn State Berks FIERCE (Futures in Engineering: Role Models Can Empower) students and Slapshot for joining us and being part of the fun!#WilsonSD
In honor of the school board's commitment to our students, schools, and communities, January is once again designated School Board Recognition Month.
School directors, who are unpaid, devote countless hours to the challenging and complex responsibilities of board business, including adopting policy, voting on budgets, evaluating school security issues, and reviewing hiring decisions.
Mr. Brad Hart, Ms. Lupe Kasper, Dr. Amy Kennedy, Ms. Steph Kocher, Mr. Bernard McCree, Mr. Sean McCrae, Ms. Jennifer Denny, Ms. Kat Royer and Mr. Bob Schneider are among the more than 850 school board members in the state’s 171 local school districts being recognized this month for their service.
We thank these locally elected officials for their service to our community! #WilsonSD

Last month, two teams of elementary students participated in the Keystone Competition at the BCIU. A team of 4th-grade students from Cornwall Terrace and a team of 3rd-grade students from Shiloh Hills collaborated to tackle a real-world challenge, design an innovative solution, and showcase their idea to judges. This completion was a fun, hands-on experience for the students to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills. Congratulations to both teams on a successful competition! #WilsonSD #ProfileofaGraduate #FutureReadyGrads

Yesterday, we hosted our 8th grade students at the Wilson Middle School career fair where they learned about career paths from 150+ professionals. Thank you to everyone involved for inspiring our students, and to Alvernia University and their student volunteers for hosting us! #WilsonSD #ProfileofaGraduate #FutureReadyGrad

Whitfield staff came together to pack boxes of food for senior citizens at Helping Harvest! This meaningful tradition has been a part of the Whitfield and Wilson community for more than 15 years, bringing volunteers together in the spirit of service. It is always a rewarding and memorable experience for everyone involved. #WilsonSD

January is National Braille Literacy Month! At Wilson, four students are learning braille, the six-dot code created by Louis Braille that opens the door to reading, writing, and learning. This month, we’re proud to recognize their hard work and celebrate the importance of braille literacy for all! #WilsonSD

Before Winter break began, our 9th-grade Algebra 1 ISTEM students worked in teams to design and build a 3D physical model of the Mars surface using real elevation data. Students applied algebraic concepts such as slope, distance, and linear equations while integrating engineering design, scientific research, CAD modeling, CNC routing, and 3D printing.
This collaborative project was led by Mr. Wallence, Mr. Bright, and Mr. Howard, bringing together math, science, and engineering in an authentic learning experience. As part of the science integration, Mr. Bright enhanced the project by incorporating the StarLab, allowing students to explore planetary motion, space science, and Mars’ position in our solar system, further deepening their understanding of space exploration.
Together, this project encouraged students to think critically and creatively as engineers and scientists while demonstrating how mathematics connects to real-world applications and future exploration beyond Earth! #WilsonSD

The Winter Music Extravaganza and Talent Show made its exciting debut and is sure to become an annual Southern tradition. From tumbling to Tchaikovsky and chamber groups to cheer, students enjoyed a school-wide assembly featuring select music ensembles including The Southern Sinfonietta, Jazz Band, and Select Chorus, along with auditioned Talent Show performances from all three grade levels. The program showcased an impressive variety of talent, from choral numbers and colorguard to duets, dance, comedy, and even pointe choreography. It was a wonderful way to come together as a school community, celebrating the dedication and hard work of our performers as we head into Winter Break. Even the faculty joined in on the fun - check out the last picture to see what the teachers did! #WilsonSD

Last week before break, our transportation department held their annual holiday luncheon! We appreciate you all and everything you do for our district! #WilsonSD

Shiloh Hills students hosted their third annual Hot Chocolate Stand on Friday, continuing their work in social skills, independent tasks, and team collaboration. This hands-on experience highlighted many attributes of the Wilson Profile of a Graduate and gave students the opportunity to demonstrate these skills for teachers and staff throughout the school. It is a fan favorite of the students and staff! #WilsonSD

Last week, Wilson Southern Middle School’s Chamber Orchestra, the Southern Sinfonietta, embarked on its annual December Tour. This year’s daytime stops included Ageless Harmony Adult Daycare and The Residence at Village Green.
Students performed a mix of classical pieces and familiar holiday favorites from their seasonal repertoire. What made this year especially meaningful was a Side-by-Side performance with select fifth graders from the Shiloh Hills strings program.
Directors Helen Clark (Southern) and Katie Moyer (Shiloh) value these outreach performances as opportunities for students to bring music into the lives of older members of our community while also enjoying the experience of making music together and sharing it with others.
Wishing everyone a very happy holiday season and a safe, warm winter break! #WilsonSD

Whitfield’s Boosterthon fundraiser was a huge success, raising $18,672 thanks to the incredible support of our families and community!
To celebrate, students earned fun incentives like glow sticks and a glow dance party. Mr. Curry took on the ultimate challenge by working from the roof for the entire day, and our Top 10 fundraisers got to pie him in the face during our monthly assembly!
Top fundraisers from each homeroom enjoyed donuts with Mr. Curry, and the winning homeroom earned an extra PE class.
These funds will directly support our school, including the purchase and installation of a safety pad for the Gaga pit to help keep our students safe while they play. Thank you for helping make this such a success! #WilsonSD
