Dr. Jon Stenger was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended Pittsburgh Public Schools, where he graduated from Schenley High School. He then attended Slippery Rock University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education. After teaching for half of a year at CAPA High School in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, he moved to Berks County and started working for the Wilson School District.
Dr. Stenger taught elementary physical education for ten years, coached at the middle school level, and served as the department chair for three years. He was also very active with the Pennsylvania State Association for Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (PSAPHERD). He presented at several local and state conferences on team building, collaboration, creativity, and cross-curricular activities.
From the beginning of his career, Dr. Stenger pursued ways to grow personally and professionally. He obtained a Master’s in Exercise Science from California University of Pennsylvania, his Principal Certification from Alvernia University, and his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University.
In 2016, Dr. Stenger moved into an administrative position with the Wilson School District. He was the assistant principal at West Middle School for two years before becoming the building principal at Green Valley Elementary. Dr. Stenger has collaborated with many colleagues and educational leaders to help develop and implement responsive and engaging staff development. He has attended and participated in many professional organizations and their learning concepts, such as Continuous School Improvement, Character Strong, Principles of Learning, Whole Child Education, Performance-Based Assessments, Equity in Education, and more. He is passionate about working with groups and individuals on culture, climate, and engagement.
Dr. Stenger is extremely excited to be part of the fantastic team at Green Valley and the Wilson School District. He is enthusiastic about working with the students and staff to address areas for growth while showcasing and building on their strengths!
