In July, Governor Wolf enacted into law a three-year pilot program which will allow districts to turn school cancellations into school days by allowing students to obtain their lesson plans at home. The Wilson School District has researched this new option and has determined that we will not be implementing Flexible Instruction Days for this school year. Our school calendar is designed to include snow make-up days, ensuring that students have access to all education resources. For example, if a student does not have internet service, it would make home instruction difficult. We also believe that it would be difficult to offer instruction on flexible instruction days to our students requiring special education services. We want to ensure that all students have access to what is required to receive a quality education experience. Therefore, the Wilson School District will not be implementing the flexible instruction days. While it may be an attractive option for some districts, we feel that it will not serve the interest of our students and staff at this time.
