Recently, the Governor provided guidance in relation to the process for interscholastic athletics to return to play. The guidance is specific to the ability to bring our athletes back for limited practice/training during the voluntary preseason. The key part of this process was the development and approval of a Health and Safety plan for Wilson School District Athletics and Extracurricular Activities. The Wilson School District plan was approved at the June 22, 2020 school board meeting.
With the approval of this plan, our teams are permitted to begin limited voluntary practice/ training beginning July 1. Prior to resuming any practice/activity, we are asking all athletes and their parents/guardians to review the district-approved Athletics and Extracurricular Health and Safety Plan.
In addition, all athletes choosing to participate in voluntary pre-season activities must complete the Wilson School District Athletic and Extracurricular Activities Participation Waiver for Communicable Diseases Including COVID-19. This waiver must be signed and given to the coach on July 1 (or whenever the athlete attends their first preseason activity). Parents or students are expected to take the athlete’s temperature daily (prior to attending practice) and will not allow the student-athlete to participate if his/her temperature reaches 100.4 degrees or higher.
Please note that this Health and Safety Plan is designed for voluntary, preseason activities only. These practices/activities are not mandatory and no athlete will be penalized for not attending.
Coaches will be reaching out to their athletes and families in the next few days with specifics regarding planned summer activities.
