The first thing you will notice when you talk to me is that I am not from Berks County.
I was born outside London, England and raised in Ireland. I gained my Bachelor of Arts at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth in German, French, English, and Sociology where I also completed my graduate work culminating in the Higher Diploma in Education, Ireland’s teacher training qualification for Secondary Teachers. Additionally, I hold the ESL Certificate to teach English as a Foreign Language. I completed the Masters in Arts at Albright and hold a Masters in Education from Gratz College.
My first passion was and still is German. During my four-month summer vacations at university, I lived and worked in various states and towns in South Germany. On the last of these university undergraduate internships, I met my husband, Herr Ipsen, a native of Tönning, Nordfriesland in Schleswig-Holstein in the North of Germany. After completing my studies and gaining Permanent Teacher Status (tenure) in Ireland I moved to Hamburg, Germany where I lived for 10 years.
My professional experience includes :
- Teaching English and German in Eureka Convent, Kells, Ireland
- Teaching at Kuwait Oil Company ( KOC), Kuwait
- Teaching at Anglo English School, Hamburg, Germany for 10 years
- Assistant Director of Anglo English School, Hamburg, Germany
- Teaching ESL/EFL in Paris, France
- Teaching ESL/EFL in Scotland, London and Dublin, Ireland
- Working in Personnel Recruitment, London
Travelling is definitely my number one hobby. My husband (Herr Ipsen) and I have been lucky to be able to travel extensively over the last few years. We love America and also have a place in our hearts for South Africa, Central America, and Asia. My daughter Amy loves traveling to visit her grandparents in Europe for the summer.
I am delighted to be at Wilson, back teaching High School and enjoying every minute. It is a privilege to be surrounded by such wonderful students and colleagues. Go Bulldogs!
