Communities In Schools Individual Student Support Services

Welcome to the Wilson West Middle School Communities in Schools page!  The Mission of Communities in Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

What is it?

Communities In Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania (CIS) is an affiliate of the national Communities In Schools network, the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization. The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS is partnered with Wilson School District to provide support services during the school day to meet academic and non-academic needs, such as behavior interventions, attendance awareness, social skill building, academic support, and supportive guidance.

 

Why should my student participate in these services?

CIS provides supportive services to students experiencing academic, behavioral, and/or social difficulties that may pose barriers to school success.

 

Who will work with my student?

Wilson West Middle School works with highly qualified and experienced staff from Communities In Schools.  Mrs. Kristin Young is a caring professional who is trained and educated to provide supportive services to your student.

 

What will the CIS Site Coordinator share with my student?

  • A caring, responsive and supportive relationship
  • Coping skills
  • Strategies for school success
  • How to identify and resist social or situational pressures
  • Motivational strategies

 

What will my student share with the CIS Site Coordinator

Students discuss school performance (such as grades, attendance and behavior) and obstacles and challenges that are getting in the way of success. Students may also participate in surveys that help measure changes in their attitudes and skills.

 

How do we get started?
