On Monday, December 4, we welcomed four new members to the Wilson School Board. Ed Case, Becky Ellis, Amy Kennedy, Stephanie Kocher were officially sworn in at the start of the meeting. They join existing members Steve Ehrlich, Brad Hart, Jay Nigrini, Mike Martin and Matt Wolf.
We wanted to give you the opportunity to learn a little bit more about each of our newest board members!
Mr. Ed Case:
Ed Case is an IT professional with over 20 years of experience specializing in business system applications and project management. He earned his BS in mathematics from Kutztown University and holds an MBA from Penn State University.
His belief in developing the whole student, challenging yourself and taking advantage of extracurricular activities and clubs will help enable students to find themselves and begin to develop their lifelong passions during their time at Wilson.
In 2013, Ed and his wife Audra made a very conscious decision to make a larger impact in the lives of their two children and Wilson community and to “live where you teach,” where Mrs. Case teaches 8th grade science. Ed enjoys coaching with the Van Reed basketball, Wilson Youth baseball, and Reading Blacktop Basketball programs and loves old home restoration, music and comedy.
Ms. Becky Ellis:
Becky and her family moved to the Wilson School District 5 years ago. Her daughter is a senior this year at Wilson High School. Becky is a graduate of Albright College with majors in International Business, Marketing, and Spanish, and has a certificate in accounting from Lehigh Carbon Community College. While in college, Becky spent seven months in Chile as a student teacher.
She is currently employed with Glen-Gery Corporation as a business applications analyst and is a member of the Corporate Safety Committee. She also serves on the board for Berks Parks and Recreation and loves volunteering with park events as time allows.
Dr. Amy Kennedy:
After graduating from Kutztown University, Amy Kennedy was hired as a 6th grade teacher at Whitfield Elementary. During her time at Whitfield, she also taught kindergarten, second, and first grade and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with Master of Education in Reading/Writing/Literacy and started a doctoral program at Widener University in Reading, from which she graduated in December 2013.
In August 2010, she returned to teach at Kutztown University in the Department of Elementary Education. At KU, she teaches in the elementary education program, teaching mostly literacy and methods classes.
Currently residing in Lower Heidelberg, Dr. Kennedy has been married to her husband Steve since 2001 and they have four children: Cooper and Patrick, who attend West Middle School; Tanner who is at Green Valley Elementary, and Blakely, who will be an official Bulldog at Berkshire Heights Early Learning Center next year.
Mrs. Steph Kocher:
A Wilson graduate, Steph received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg University and Master of Education in School Counseling from Millersville University.
Following college, she taught at Shiloh Hills Elementary School for a year and Wilson Southern for 9 years. After 10 years of teaching, Steph decided to stay at home with her 2 children.
According to Steph, “I believe that the cooperation between parents, teachers, and administrators is the key to a quality education for all students. It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve the Wilson community in a different role.”
Welcome to the Wilson School Board! We look forward to working together to positively impact our school community!
