Dear Wilson Community,
It’s hard to believe that it is already October! The first month of school flew by and now our thoughts are turning to fall and the shorter days and cooler weather that is upon us. As we move through the school year, one thing that I value as your Superintendent is the opportunity to hear from our staff, families and community about what we can do better to improve the Wilson experience for all our students. We recently conducted a Thoughtexchange where we asked the question “What are your thoughts and ideas on how we can, together, strengthen the Wilson School District community?” The results of the exchange can be found here.
There were quite a few themes that emerged from the exchange. We will be continuing to analyze the results and incorporate those thoughts into our on-going strategic planning. However there are two areas that received a number of comments and ratings that we are taking action on immediately:
First, we will return to publishing a weekly COVID dashboard reflecting the total number of cases since the beginning of the school year and the number of rolling 14 day cases in our buildings. The dashboard will also reflect the weekly data for Berks County. You can view the dashboard at this link, along with information about criteria for case counts and PA DOH thresholds for recommended closures. It will also be posted on the district’s Health and Safety plan website.
Second, one area of focus for our District is on career readiness for our students. This theme also came out in the recent Exchange. Therefore, we are planning to hold a Community Forum on Tuesday, October 26 beginning at 6 pm in the boardroom (located in the Administration Building at 2601 Grandview Blvd., West Lawn) to share information about our goals in this area and to solicit community feedback/ questions. We will be holding forums throughout the school year on topics that interest our community, so continue to follow our District communications channels for future dates.
I am also including the district administrative goals approved by the Wilson School Board for the 2021-2022 school year. The goals can be found HERE. These goals will serve as a roadmap for all of our collective work during the 2021-2022 school year.
We thank you again for your ongoing support of the Wilson School District. Receiving your feedback, suggestions and concerns helps make us even better for our students!
Dr. Richard H. Faidley, Superintendent
