The Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Health recently released a mandate regarding short-term closures which are based on the school size. Closures are determined based on the number of cases by building during a 14-day period. The metrics we are mandate to use are as follows:
- Wilson Elementary and Wilson Middle Schools (medium size building with 500-900 students enrolled both in-person and virtual): 4-6 confirmed COVID-19 cases within a rolling 14 day window at an individual school results in a 3-7 day closure.
- Wilson High School (large-size building with 900+ students enrolled both in-person and virtual): 6-10 confirmed COVID-19 cases within a rolling 14 day window at an individual school results in a 3-7 days closure.
Based on these new metrics, we may need to move to temporary, short-term closure with very little notice for our families. You are able to track the number of cases we have in our buildings through our COVID-19 dashboard so you’ll have a daily picture of the status of our schools.
In the event that we need to move to a short-term closure, we will be following a similar communications process as what we use for our inclement weather days. You can review that process here. Of particular note is that we will be making phone calls through our Skylert system, so it is important that your contact information is up-to-date in our system.
