School Counseling Services
School counseling services are provided to the students of Shiloh Hills Elementary on a confidential basis. Counseling takes place individually and in small groups. These sessions are designed to assist children in developing appropriate coping strategies for working out problems and concerns. Counseling referrals can be made by any school staff, parents, and through self-referrals by the students.
Children meet with the counselor on an as needed basis. All students have the option of requesting to meet with the counselor to talk about any school, family, or emotional concern they feel may be impacting them. Teachers, parents, and school staff can also request that the counselor meet with children.
Small Group Counseling
Groups of 3-8 children meet on an as needed basis. The small groups will have students who may be dealing with similar concerns or problems. The length of the sessions will vary with each group. Small groups provide a safe, confidential place for children to share experiences and feelings.
Below are a few groups that may be formed throughout the school year:
- Social Skills
- Anger Management
- Banana Splits (Children of Divorce)
- Study Skills and Organization
- Good Choices
- Stress Busters
All of the information shared in the counseling programs will not be made public to other students and families. Shiloh Hills employees will work together to provide the most appropriate services for students. General information may be shared with involved parties. Confidentiality ensures that school counselors won’t share students’ disclosures with others except when the students authorizes it or when there is a clear and present danger to the student and/or to other persons.
