May 11, 2023, marked the end of the CDC’s COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Declaration. With the declaration expired, our procedures for handling COVID-19 cases fall back to our standard procedures for student and staff illnesses. If a student or staff member has a positive test, they do not need to quarantine or remain home for 5 days from symptom onset but should remain home as long as they are symptomatic. The student or staff member will be allowed to return when they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication when symptoms have subsided, or according to the return date on a physician’s note, if provided. Again, this is in line with our standard practice for all student or staff illnesses.
Masking is still recommended by the CDC for those who have a positive COVID test but is not required.
For students: COVID-19 absences will count as a typical parental excused absence unless a physician’s note is present (this is not required). For any questions regarding the Covid-19 procedure for students, please contact the nurse in your building.
