We wanted our community to be aware that there will be some traffic disruption on the streets around the Wilson High School and Whitfield campuses this summer as a result of a construction project.
PPL Electric Utilities recently began the important work to build a new underground transmission line near both of those properties. This project is necessary to improve electric service throughout the region. Without the new line, thousands of customers in the region could potentially face long outages in the event of a transmission system problem. Construction recently started and is scheduled to be completed in December 2019. Construction will occur almost entirely within the public right of way within the street. Crews will work by sections to limit traffic disturbance as much as possible. Traffic restrictions and flaggers will be used throughout construction.
We have provided PPL with a list of major events occurring at the High School campus this summer so that the disruption will be minimal to attendees. In addition, we anticipate the majority of the work will be completed prior to the start of the school year, but any anticipated changes to bus schedules as a result of the construction will be communicated to those who will be affected.
The map provided by PPL regarding the project is attached. We will continue to provide any updates as necessary for our community.
Please also note that the area behind the Lower House that will be fenced due to a compromised storm sewer line which has compromised an electrical duct bank. We are making the repairs but need to ensure that we are keeping everyone safe by fencing the area off.
