The Wilson School District will not use Flexible Instruction Days again this year (remote learning days in place of full school closure). Students lose out on quality instruction with their teachers during Flexible Instruction Days, and we feel that traditional snow days allow kids to enjoy playing outside in the snow. Therefore, we chose to, once again, build weather make-up days into the board-approved school calendar.
In the current 2024-2025 school year calendar, the inclement weather make-up days are as follows:
April 16, April 17, June 4, June 5 and June 6
Snow Days/Cancellations
In the case of an overnight weather event, I will drive the roads throughout the District to gain a visual perspective of the physical conditions. Our school district varies greatly in road and weather conditions due to the elevation changes. The intent of physically driving in the area is to get a real-time view of the roads that are typically problematic for students, parents, and bus transportation. At the same time, we will be checking with municipalities about plowing, cindering, and salting schedules as necessary. We will also speak with key district personnel during these events to ensure the school grounds are safe for opening.
We will aim to make winter weather calls by approximately 6:00 a.m. to allow families, transportation, and staff time to prepare for the morning. While this timeframe may not always occur due to the timing or complexity of the issue, it is our general target timeline.
If inclement weather necessitates a snow day, we will do so in the interest of safety for our staff, students, and community.
Weather-Related Delay Schedule
Two-Hour Delay
Unless otherwise communicated, all Wilson students in grades K-12 will follow the 2-hour delay schedule below:
Secondary: Students in grades 6-12 will start at 9:55 a.m.
Elementary: Students in grades K-5 will start at 10:50 a.m.
Weather-Related Early Dismissals
If we need to dismiss early due to winter weather, we will make our best effort to notify parents by 9:00 a.m. In most scenarios, we will dismiss using the following schedule:
Secondary: Students in grades 7-12 will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m.
Elementary: Students in grades K-6 will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
A grab-and-go lunch will be made available to all students upon early dismissal.
Please also take note of the communication process for informing families about any changes in our school schedule due to inclement weather. This process encompasses the Wilson School District, Wilson Preschool at Berkshire Heights, Wilson Before and After School Care, and Wilson Pre-K Counts classrooms.
