In our ongoing effort to partner with you in the best interest of our students, we wanted to bring to your attention to an important topic – the Momo Challenge.
You may have heard about the resurgence of the most recent social media challenge known as the “Momo Challenge.” In short, the Momo Challenge references a character who entices students to commit harmful acts to others or themselves. This content has been found spliced into seemingly innocent YouTube videos and other web content and games that are appealing to children. While this particular material is not new, there has been an increased presence in the media over the past week. And in turn, our Wilson staff members have overheard and intervened in student conversations about the Momo Challenge. Here is a good resource containing information and tips for parents and guardians regarding this topic http://www.wilsonsd.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/MOMO-Online-Safety-Guide-for-Parents-FEB-2019.pdf
This is a friendly reminder to review, with your children, appropriate guidelines for safe social media use and online gaming. Please be mindful and aware of what your children are viewing and sharing on the internet. If your child expresses concern or distress about the Momo Challenge, please take the appropriate steps to reach out to our guidance counselor, Mrs. Lasher, or our principal, Mrs. Yeiser.
