In 2018, the Wilson School District began the process of conducting a District-Wide Feasibility Study. The purpose of the study was to provide us with a comprehensive report to use as a valuable resource for long-term decision making about the District’s educational facilities. The report provided enrollment projections as well as important information related to the current condition of our school buildings and outdoor athletic facilities.
The demographic portion of the study shows that we are, and will continue to be, a growing school district! Our increased enrollment demonstrates that our District is a desirable community in which families can raise their children. However, this increased enrollment had caused an inequitable balance of students in our K-5 schools. We currently have schools that are over or close to capacity for classroom and support spaces for students while others have space available.
To address this situation, our school board authorized the district to move forward with a Right-Sizing plan to balance student enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. You can view the slides from that presentation here.
We are gathering the input of our community regarding this project through this Thoughtexchange by asking the question “What are some important perspectives to consider as we embark on balancing our student enrollment in our elementary schools through a right-sizing project?” We utilize this feedback as we continue our work on this project. You can access the exchange here.
Your input is valued and appreciated. The deadline to participate in this exchange is Sunday, April 10, 2022.
